Jim Walsh - October 5th '09

On Monday, October 5th Congressman Jim Walsh endorsed Steve Kimatian in his campaign to become the Mayor of Syracuse. Walsh, who served for 20 years in Congress, stressed the importance of having a qualified manager run the city. During his time in Congress, Walsh brought back around $200 million in federal aide to Syracuse and Central New York, an amount that he expects to decrease dramatically due to the current economic crisis and budget deficit at the national level. Due to this decrease in funding Walsh stated that it is imperative that the City of Syracuse manages its resources efficiently and effectively. “Mayor Daley in Chicago, Mayor Bloomberg in New York, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giulianni all come from different political parties, but they all have one thing in common, they are leaders. This is something I have faith that Steve Kimatian can do tremendously for the city of Syracuse.”

Joanie Mahoney- October 15th '09

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney called Steve "the best choice for modernization, consolidation, and cutting the size and cost of government," during her endorsement of Steve Kimatian for Mayor.

"As an independent candidate, Steve Kimatian doesn't owe political favors to anybody," Mahoney said. "There won't be any pressure on him to maintain the status quo, and he and I can work together on streamlining government- delivering services more efficiently and effectively. All taxpayers will benefit from his election."

"I have known Steve for a number of years," she added. "As a seasoned and successful business executive, he knows taht consolidation is the key to cutting taxes and providing a business climate that fosters prosperity."

In accepting the endorsement, Kimatian praised Mahoney as "a thoughtful and innovative leader, fighting every day aganst the business-as-usual attitudes that permeate government at every level."

Nick Pirro- October 22nd 09

Former Onondaga County Executive Nick Pirro endorsed Steve Kimatian, calling his candidacy "a unique opportunity to elect a different kind of Mayor."

Pirro pointed to Kimatian's experience as a business executive as especially beneficial to the city. Stating, "Steve knows that development means investment in our community. Steve knows that development means adding to our tax base. Steve knows that development means jobs."
