"If you can state the problem, you can solve it." Situated in the middle of Upstate New York surrounded by the natural beauty of rivers lakes and mountains, Syracuse is a city with great potential. We may face many problems and issues. But, at the same time, our problems are not unique. Other cities have faced similar issues and are finding solutions. There are best practices and tested strategies available to us. There is also a wealth of creativity and imagination within our own community, just waiting to be tapped. With a mutual will and dedication to solving our issues and building forward, there is no reason why Syracuse cannot be transformed into one of America’s great urban centers. Throughout my career as a business executive, I have been judged on only one thing, my ability to achieve results. That is the same standard upon which I hope to be judged as Mayor. While any candidate can make promises and put ideas on paper, only a true leader can turn those ideas into reality. Over the years, on my office wall hung a framed quote by Edwin Land: “If you can state the problem, you can solve it.” When he and his six year old daughter were standing on a hilltop in San Francisco overlooking the beauty of the city, he took a picture with his camera. His daughter asked why she couldn’t see the picture right away. She stated the problem. He solved it by inventing instant photography. Likewise, we will state the problem: What do we need to do to create one of American’s great cities? And, together, we solve it. |

Our city has so much to offer prospective employers. Now, we need to sell those advantages. I know how to do it, and I will do it.
