Sustainability/EnvironmentThere is no doubt that sustainability and environmental matters are of the highest importance in all projects of City development and renovations. To the maximum extent available, we should pursue Federal and State monies dedicated to renewable energy and green construction. We should utilize our institutional resources, such as with ESF and other universities having expertise in these areas. There is opportunity for business development, as well as direct enhancement of our community. Many jobs have the potential of growth in these areas and as a region having the resident expertise, we should take advantage of this opportunity. Given the age of our homes and buildings, we need to assert an aggressive elimination of the negative consequences to children from lead based paints and other environmental contaminants. A Park Conservancy structured properly along the lines of that adopted for Central Park in New York City should be encouraged. Our parks are a valuable resource and a distinctive aspect of our community and we should be sure to preserve, maintain and enhance their usage. |
